The 10 Day Challenge: {Nine Loves}

DAY TWO: Nine Loves

1. Macarons
I am OBSESSED with macarons. The delicious crunch as you take a bite, followed by the gooey goodness inside. There's nothing more delicious than a plate FULL of macarons paired with a frothy cappuccino. I could live off macarons, I honestly could.

2. Shoes
I'm quite a lazy dresser and I tend to opt for black garments, mostly because they're easy to wear and black always looks polished. What's more, when you wear all black, you can get away with more daring footwear options, and as anyone who knows me can attest, I'm a fan of beautiful shoes: the higher, the better.

3. Cape Town
I was born in Pretoria, but I've lived all over during my 26 years: we moved to Cape Town when I was 9 years old, then back to Pretoria, only to pack up and move to the United Arab Emirates for three and a half years when I was 14. We moved back to Pretoria when I was in grade 11 so that I could get my Matric certificate, then I promptly moved to Grahamstown to study English at Rhodes University. I then lived in Johannesburg for three years, but I'm thrilled to be back in Cape Town. I love everything about this city and for the first time since living here the first time round, I feel home. I don't think I'll be moving cities again any time soon! My favourite place in Cape Town? Long Beach in Noordhoek, without a doubt.

4. Cats
I love all animals and yes, dogs are cute, but I'm definitely more of a cat person. I think it's their independence - you know that whole 'treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen' approach to dating? I'm pretty sure that's the appeal with cats.

5. Polka dots
When I'm not wearing black, you'll most often find me sporting a polka dot something. I don't know what it is, but something about polka dots just speaks to me. I can't wait for summer so that I can dust off my much-loved polka dot dress again.

6. Road Trips
I don't know whether it's the padkos, the good music or the freedom, but there's nothing I love more than going on a road trip with my fiance. We don't need a good reason for an adventure, either - often we've woken up on a Sunday morning and spontaneously gotten into the car with no particular destination in mind. I also love getting home just in time for a late afternoon nap, followed by good food while watching a good movie.

7. Summer
I really, really love summer. I've always been more of a summer person than a winter person. I just don't do winter well: I can't stand spending my hard-earned money on (what I feel are) frumpy winter clothes, I hate feeling cold, and I always feel a little sad at this time of the year. I'm always reminded that there are so many less-fortunate people out there; people who are cold, hungry and homeless. I long for balmy, summer evenings, beach days, cocktails by the poolside and pretty summer fashion.

8. My fiance
Yes, this is a rather obvious choice, but really. I'm not going to lie and pretend that there aren't days when he drives me completely mad, but most of the time I look at him in awe and wonder how I got so lucky. How did I manage to land this gorgeous, talented man who is so patient, so gentle and so kind? And he wants to spend the rest of his life with me? I'm really, really lucky.

9. My life...
...in general. I must have been really good in my past life, because I'm pretty lucky to lead the life I do. I have amazing parents who are loving and supportive, I have four wonderful brothers who are the best friends a girl could ask for, my fiance is pretty great (see above), I'm fortunate to love what I do, and I have a beautiful new home to boot. Life really is beautiful.
