On My Nightstand: Cassidy from The Glam Green Girl

So it's been a while since the last "On My Nightstand" post, but I think this post proves that it's been well worth the wait. Today's post comes from Cassidy Taylor-Memmory, who has proved to be an absolute life saver while assisting me in the beauty department at O for the last couple of months. Cassidy is also the creator of The Glam Green Girl, a fantastic blog that shows that it is possible to be both environmentally conscious and glamorous at the same time. Thanks for sharing, Cass!

"I recently moved to Cape Town and a lot has changed. A new house meant a new room, which meant a whole new set up for my nightstand. Due to my OCD tendencies, I tend to use the nightstand on the left-hand side of my bed more than I do the right side (don't ask why, because I don't know why!) As you can see, my Blackberry never leaves my side."

"I'm currently the beauty intern at O, The Oprah magazine so it's only natural that I would have beauty products on my bedside table. I keep all the essentials beside my bed: Balm Balm Lip Balm, Sally Hansen Vitamin E Nail and Cuticle Oil, The Body Shop Almond Oil Intensive Hand Treatment and Balm Balm Foot Balm. Placing these next to my bed reminds me to use them every night!"

"The next essential everyone needs beside their bed - books! I'm a very visual person, so I love paging through the newest issues of magazines and looking at all the images, but I love reading through all the articles at night. I've just watched the latest film in the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn Part 1, but I love the books because they give a better insight into what Bella, Edward and Jacob are thinking (I'm a Twi-hard, I know!)

Since my move down to Cape Town, I've started going to regular yoga classes. It was actually with thanks to Chereen that I attended my first class, and I've loved it ever since. My mom has always urged me to read Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat, Pray, Love because of my love for Italy, but I never really got into the book. Until now, that is. Now I can relate to the journey your body and mind go on when you travel to a new place, when you start yoga and when you begin to find yourself. So thanks to my mom, Sylvia Taylor-Memmory, I'm finally reading and appreciating the novel. I also have a special bookmark that was given to me by a dear family-friend (that's you, Tonya Campbell!) that's accompanying me on my Eat, Pray, Love journey.

I keep the word 'love' next to my bed to remind me that I'm always surrounded by love. I also have all the rosaries I've collected over the years - one from my first Holy Communion to others that have been blessed in European cathedrals and brought back from various family members' travels. These ensure that I'm reminded of the fact that I'm blessed with love and to always have faith when I go to bed at night."

Thanks so much for sharing, Cassidy! I absolutely adore your nightstand - so many special trinkets! If you haven't checked out Cassidy's gorgeous blog yet, you're missing out. One of my favourite posts is this one, where Cassidy shares snaps from her new home and gives her tips for incorporating do-able green strategies in daily life.

To further indulge my curiosity, I'll be doing a weekly post called 'On My Nightstand' where fellow bloggers and friends will take a few snap shots of their nightstand and send a brief description for your viewing pleasure, so be sure to check back regularly. If you'd like to share the contents of your nightstand, please don't hesitate to be in touch - either leave me a note in the comments section or pop me a quick mail on chereeng@gmail.com. I'd love to hear from you!
