I attended M.A.C Cosmetic's amazing Spring/Summer 2012 launch this afternoon and I can't even begin to describe how excited I am to start planning the spring and summer issues for work. When researching beauty trends, I often find that the same trends keep appearing - berry lips for winter, soft nudes for summer, and so on. The real crux lies in what makes these trends new and fresh each time. Whether there's a difference in product texture (from matte to glossy, for example), a new application technique or specific hue (think canary yellow versus mustard), it's the way a particular trend is worn that makes it different from season to season. One element that stood out most for me was the focus on soft, gently blurred lips. The new way to wear lipstick going into the next season is to concentrate your lip colour at the centre of your lips, and gently blend outwards so that there's just a hint of colour, with no hard edge. As someone who prefers a quality lip gloss to a high-maintenance lipstick, I'm really excited to try this look. I was so inspired by Michelle-Lee Collins, M.A.C South Africa's Senior Artist, and her team that I arrived back at the office feeling newly inspired and ready for anything. This, and a few other small pleasures, mean that this week is shaping up to be a great one!
