My holiday essentials

{A list helps to keep my ordinarily frantic packing method calm and ordered}

I was lucky enough to spend a few days in Greyton over the Christmas period and I was totally blown away. I've never been to Greyton, so I must admit that I was a bit skeptical and had visions of a boring little town with tumbleweeds et al. I was pleasantly surprised. Greyton may be a quaint little town, but there is enough hustle and bustle to ensure that a city girl like me stays entertained - think beautiful, one-of-a-kind clothing boutiques, charming decor stores and cute little coffee shops. I wasn't quite sure what to pack for our trip, so I packed just about everything I could think of: hiking shoes - check. Comfortable flats - check. Heels - check. (You never know when you might need a gorgeous pair of heels!) The packing process has always been a bit crazy, because I always seem to forget to pack important items (like my ghd or toothbrush!) or I end up leaving items at the holiday accommodation upon my return home (I once left my bikini hanging in the shower at a guesthouse in White River, just a day before my trip to Mauritius!). I've developed a very lengthy, yet oddly calming, method of packing as a result. The packing process starts off with a list detailing every singly item that I plan of taking with - down to the number of pairs of underwear. I tick each item off as I pack it into my bag to ensure that I don't leave anything behind. Quite possibly the most important part of the process is what happens on the other side, just before my return home. I meticulously run a line through each and every item on my 'To Pack' list as I place that piece into my suitcase to ensure that I don't leave any of my precious cargo behind! A bit OCD, I know, but it works for me!

{I can't get enough of these fab beauty buys at the moment}

Regardless of where I may be heading, I always make sure that I've packed my full range of skin care products - including my exfoliator and serums. I recently started using the !QMS Classic Collagen Set, which includes both the day and night collagen (which I apply to freshly cleansed skin and before my !QMS 24 Hour Moisture Cream) and the Exfoliant Fluid (by far my favourite product in the range so far). Since I flat iron my hair on a regular basis, I never go anywhere without my ghd and, more importantly, the ghd Style Heat Protect Spray. I've just recently discovered Moroccanoil, a wonderful range of hair care products that have become a firm fixture in my beauty routine. I've been using the original Moroccanoil Treatment ever since I first received a bottle about three months ago and I am sold. Another plus? One bottle goes a long way. I use the treatment oil on damp hair every morning and I've still got half a bottle worth of product left - even after three months! I recently added the Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to my collection. Simply spray onto styled hair, leave for three minutes and get ready for shine like you've never seen it before! As I've mentioned several times before, I am very cautious when it comes to the sun - like most women, I absolutely love spending time in the sun, but I never step out of the house without wearing sun protection. That's not to say that I don't like a hint of a tan, though! I prefer to use a good quality self-tan product and I find that Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion gives an even, natural-looking glow. It's also really easy to use, I've never had a problem with unsightly streaks and it smells great, to boot!

{I never leave home without my stash of suncare products}

Did you go away during December and, if so, do you follow a rigid packing procedure, like mine? What are your holiday essentials?

(You'll also notice that I finally managed to find the perfect bikini, after weeks of searching. This one is from Country Road and I love that the orangey-red hue brings out what little colour I do have!)
