Lately I've been craving a relaxing break filled with sunshine and beautiful ocean views, languid afternoon naps in a sultry, summer breeze, long, indulgent dinners followed by hot, sweaty dancing... a new place to dream about, to explore and to discover. And then I realised... I live in a new city (one of the most beautiful cities in the world, at that!) that's brimming with fresh opportunity and just waiting for me to get lost in it and discover all sorts of new things.
Sunshine? Check - and until at least 8 pm every night during summer (I don't think I'll ever tire of Cape Town's loooong, summer days!). Beautiful ocean views? Check, check and double check - from just about every angle possible (and magnificent mountain views to top it all off!). Languid afternoon naps - coming soon! My last day at work is on the 23rd, and although I absolutely LOVE my job, I can't wait for a bit of a break with the opportunity to indulge in sinful afternoon naps whenever the mood takes me. As for that sultry, summer breeze... hmmm. Cape Town's notorious, howling wind isn't quite what I had in mind, but goes a long way in cooling you off after a long day in the sun (wearing an SPF 50, of course - and reapplying said sun protection every 45 minutes!). Just the thought of it all gets me into the holiday mood...
Needless to say, my boyfriend and I have decided to stay put this December to give ourselves ample time to explore our beautiful new city. And his sister's eagerly-anticipated visit gives us even more reason to do all those fabulous touristy things that we tend to take forgranted - think Table Mountain, Robben Island, a visit to the winelands, and dozens of trips to the V&A Waterfront (I am smitten with the Waterfront - always have been, always will be. I don't care about the hustle and bustle or difficulty in finding parking during peak seasons!)
What are your plans for December?
