Tomorrow is Valentines Day? Already?! You could have fooled me. My Mister is one of those people who just doesn't 'do' Valentine's Day, but as a bit of a romantic (and a sucker for commercial holidays, I guess), I always like to do a little something to celebrate the day. Our first Valentine's Day ended in our first ever fight. I knew he didn't believe in Valentine's Day, so I made peace with the fact that there would be no flowers, chocolates or gifts. A small part of me was expecting a little surprise dinner or something - nothing too over-the-top - but when nothing more than a Woolies' Butter Chicken ready-made meal materialised, things got heated. As the years have passed, I've come to terms with Mister's beliefs and really don't expect anything at all on Valentine's Day, but I always have a little something up my sleeve just to spoil him a bit.
If, like me, Valentine's Day has been the last thing on your mind these last couple of weeks and you're stuck with no gifts for your special ones, you'll be pleased to know that online store,
Utique, has some lovely gift options that can be delivered via courier just in time for Valentine's Day. Here are just a few items I have my eyes on...
| They have the loveliest range of perspex brooches to choose from. My favourite is this adorable dachshund brooch (R80). |
| I'm not one for piles of bling or big, statement pieces, so these cute silver heart studs (R250) are right up my alley. |
| I've always wanted to create a picture wall in my home, and this lovely print (R275) would make a great start to my collection! |
| How chic is this leather toiletry bag? This 'Barber Shop' leather toiletry case (R790) would make a fine replacement for Mister's old, stained bag. Only problem? I'd be too tempted to keep it for myself! |
| My mister works as an illustrator and an artist, so he has pens and pencils strewn all over the place. This stylish, yet sensible 'Tom Robbins' leather pencil case (R350) should appeal to his practical side. |
| Mister is no fancy pants. Despite the fact that his wallet is literally falling to pieces, he refuses to replace it because he "already has a wallet". What better reason to spoil him with an origami-inspired 'Tsuyoi' Leather Wallet (R350)? |
