I have a confession to make: I am a big blog lover (and I'm not the only one, that I know for sure!) From beauty and fashion blogs to more lifestyle-orientated blogs, I love them all. I recently stumbled upon Bridget Hunt's lovely blog, Tales of Me and the Husband and I can't. stop. reading. Bridget and I are world's apart (literally - she lives in the US, I'm based in Cape Town. She's married with five (FIVE!) kids; I think I'd have a hard time coping with just one!), but I feel as though I've known her for years. I love how Bridget is completely open and honest with her readers, which is something I feel many blogs lack. Most blogs depict a picture-perfect life, and why not? Does anyone really want to read someone else's grumbles and groans on a daily basis? Life is hard enough and I have plenty of my own problems, without having to read about someone else's, thank you very much! That being said, I love how Bridget gives us a glimpse into her life - the good along with some of the bad, making it a very real portrayal of life in the Hunt household. One of my favourite posts of all time is this one, because relationships aren't all smooth sailing, ALL of the time and that's perfectly normal, too. I loved reading her Valentine's Day post too. So much so, that I was inspired to make a list of all the things I love and am grateful for, too. Here goes:
I absolutely, utterly, completely and whole-heartedly love my boyfriend. What started out as a casual friendship turned into so much more than we ever expected. Yes, he is my boyfriend, but he is so much more: my best friend, my family, my very own jester, my personal chef, my sounding board for all my ideas and even my own, personal shrink sometimes (among many other things).
I love my furry children - Cleo, Raphael and little Phoebe. They bring so much joy to my life (I only wish they would be more willing to cuddle with me - it seems as though I enjoy that far more than they do!)
I couldn't live without my daily cappuccino. There's nothing better than a really amazing cappuccino - double shot of espresso, a teeny bit of milk and a dash of brown sugar topped with delicious, frothy goodness. There's not much a decent cappuccino can't cure.
I love my friends. Since moving to Cape Town, I've had to put myself out there and forge a new circle of friends, and although my social life isn't quite what I'd like it to be just yet (partly due to too much work and too much after-work vegging, and not enough play!) it's starting to get there. I've made a handful of really amazing friends over the last few months and I wouldn't trade them for the world. (And that's not forgetting the friends I left behind in Joburg - you know who you are!)
I love my family. I have four wonderful brothers and amazing parents. They are my rock, and I love knowing that I have an incredible mom and five of the best, most upstanding men behind me, no matter what.
I love my tattoo. Not many people know that I have a tattoo, which was my intention when I got it on my 25th birthday. I wanted my first tattoo to be meaningful, and I didn't want it to be on show to the world. Before taking the plunge and getting 'inked', I worried that I would get bored of it or regret getting it in the first place. I'm not, and I don't. I LOVE it. With all my heart.
I love my job. I really do. I am in the incredibly fortunate position of being able to do what I love, and not a day goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars. That being said, my job can be tough at times (it's not all glamour and makeup, you know!) and there are parts of it I'd rather not deal with (invoices, anyone?). But the good FAR outweighs the bad, and that's what keeps me coming back for more.
What things make your heart happy?
